Our June club meeting saw us head down to Seeone Park, an old Military training camp. A big thanks to Anthony as it’s his permission and he got us a pass to go there for the day. We had many members turn up, from as far as Gladstone and Boyne Island, it was one of the biggest attendances seen since the start of the club. It was a great day out, take a look at the pics and hope you enjoy.

May 2023 Pirate Day Kemp Beach

Our first Pirate Day at Kemp Beach was a great success. Lots of families, turned out for a fun day of metal detecting, trying their luck at finding the winning keys for the treasure chests.

Lots of fun was had by everyone, all the kids, big and small. Many old coins and not so lucky keys were found. Lots of prizes were won on the day, including the main prize of an Minelab X-Terra Pro detector. Congratulations to Archie on finding the winning key and claiming the prize.

Our raffle was also drawn with 2 more lucky people taking away a detector each. There were also prizes given for best dressed pirates, congratulations to all those awesome winners. All the winners on the day were also lucky enough to have their photo taken with Pirate Pez, who was very busy. Thanks Pirate Pez for all your help. Click here for photos.

The day was dedicated in memory of our late member John Fontaine.

April 2023 Club Hunt

This months hunt was a first for a few of our members making the trip to the gold fields of Clermont. It didn’t disappoint either, with a few nice nuggets found over the couple of days hunting.

The sight of gold coming out of the ground is an experience that you never forget. The guys also found some nice relics on their trip to go with the gold.

We also had a local meeting for the members that couldn’t make it to Clermont. A few nice little trinkets were found overall including a silver ring, 1918 threepence and some other goodies.

Have a look through the photos here to see what was found.

Greg Egretz Memorial Hunt

The Greg Egretz Memorial weekend was a huge success and wasn’t there some great stuff found. Everybody found something nice, which is good to see. Seeonee Park holds a lot of history, it was a World War training camp as well as a Scout camping ground.

A big thank you to Anthony and everyone else involved to make this great event happen and to honour Greg who spent many a day with Anthony digging there and saving the history. Sophie, our youngest member won the Trophy for the weekend, Congratulations Sophie.

Have a look through the pics and enjoy the finds as much as we did.

October Club Hunt 2022

We had around a dozen members turn out for our hunt on Sunday the 27th of November. It was a very hot morning but we managed a good couple of hours of hunting before we eventually ran out of steam. There were a few coins found, John got a nice half penny, and we all seemed to manage a few spendables. Andrew had his own club hunt down in NSW, he found a nice railway button, a couple of pennys including a commonwealth and a half penny.

Pics here guys.

Club Meeting October 2022

A Token hunt was organized for our meeting in October. Marvin kindly donated 5 Commonwealth Penny’s for the kids to find, to win a nice Token each, also donated by Marvin.

The adults section had 2 tokens buried and the first person to find a token won a 1oz 24k Gold Knights Templar Token, again donated by Marvin. The second one found won a bundle of Roo Penny Coasters.

It was a great day and a successful hunt with both the adults and kids enjoying themselves trying to find the tokens and penny’s. Take a look at some of the pics collected and see who won the prizes.

Photos here guys.

September 2022 Club Hunt and Camping Trip

For this months hunt, we spent 2 nights at Ogmore, searching some of the many old places that were available to us. Andrew done a great job researching and finding out about the history of the old place and gaining us permission to hunt there. We found out that many a thirsty old coal miner dropped there coins at the pub, well under the pub anyway, as the coins dropped through the floorboards and ended up in the dirt.

We had 2 good days of hunting and we managed to find quite a number of old relics from the past. Also lots of pre-decimal coins and some lovely old bottles were found. There were well over 15 silver coins found, many penny’s and half penny’s. Leeann found what we describe as a full house of pre-decimal coins, that’s one of each denomination.

Check out the Pictures.

Club Hunts June, July, August 2022

Just a short wrap up and show and tell of our last few Club Hunts. In June we had a small, but successful little hunt at a local park here in Rockhampton. Everyone chimed in with some nice coins. Andrew also found a heap of them on his day out in NSW.

For July’s meeting we headed up the hill to Mt Morgan, a place called Car-Lyn Prospecting. Sophie found a very nice 1907 Edward VII Britannia Penny, Brendan found an old vintage Yale lock and John found some gold in Long Gully.

August seen us back at the Mount, not far from the old gold mine. Was a good day out everyone went home smiling as we all found something worth remembering. Karen found a nice big old Jackson Tasmanian lock.

Overall its been a very successful couple of months for all of our members, not just on club hunts, the rate of finds coming out of the ground is a sight to been seen.

Happy Hunting and check out the Pics.
