CQ Detectorists Annual Pirate Beach Day 2026

Ahoy Mateys!

The CQ Detectorists Annual Pirate Beach Day is back for 2026, and it’s shaping up to be our biggest treasure hunt yet!

Join us on Saturday, 11 July 2026, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Kemp Beach – Access K4, for a morning packed with adventure, treasure, laughter, and pirate fun for the whole family.

Hunt for Treasure!

Grab a metal detector and search the beach for hidden pirate keys. Bring your own detector or borrow one from the CQ Detectorists club. Every key found is a chance to unlock one of Pirate Pez’s treasure chests!

If your key opens a chest, the treasure inside is yours to keep. If your key doesn’t fit… you’ll be sent to Walk the Plank! Pirate Pez himself will be on hand to make sure all scallywags and ruffians receive the appropriate pirate justice.

An unbelievable bounty awaits! There are 2 brand new Metal Detectors to be won, Remote Control Cars, Toys, Paddle Boards, Vouchers etc etc etc. Too much to list here!

Junior Sailors Sifting Area

Our youngest pirates won’t miss out on the fun. The dedicated Junior Sailors Sifting Area will be filled with hidden treasures buried in the sand, ready to be discovered using sand scoops and shovels.

Best Dressed Pirate Competitions

Dress in your finest pirate gear and you could walk away with a prize! Categories include:

The CQ Detectorists have just had their annual AGM weekend camp at a historical WW2 U.S. Army Training ground in the Rockhampton district.

A very nice turnout with club members coming from as far as Mackay and the Sunshine Coast! This weekend is designed to bring all the club members together from all over the state, to vote for the committee positions in the club.

The weather was lovely, not too cold overnight, and not too hot through the days. Although a welcome campfire was appreciated by those feeling the chill in the evenings. This gave members the chance to sit back, have a couple of social beverages, and chat about  going-ons in the detecting scene.

Every year the club members have been issued a challenge to claim the “Greg Egrets Memorial Trophy”, a prestigious award that is now in it’s 5th year. “Chubb” claimed the win after finding a cleverly hidden special token. This token secured him the win after he found where Anthony (Greg Egrets son) had hidden it under a log!

This has always been a popular weekend with our club members, this year having a date change though. We used to hold this event in February, but a winter date was found to be very favorable to our members

Whether you’re a seasoned detectorist or a first-time treasure hunter, this is a day not to miss. The event is Pirate Day themed, so don your best pirate costume, grab your eye patch, and join in on the hunt for buried treasure along the beautiful sands of Kemp Beach.

Our June club meeting saw us head down to Seeone Park, an old Military training camp. A big thanks to Anthony as it’s his permission and he got us a pass to go there for the day. We had many members turn up, from as far as Gladstone and Boyne Island, it was one of the biggest attendances seen since the start of the club. It was a great day out, take a look at the pics and hope you enjoy.

Our first Pirate Day at Kemp Beach was a great success. Lots of families, turned out for a fun day of metal detecting, trying their luck at finding the winning keys for the treasure chests.

Lots of fun was had by everyone, all the kids, big and small. Many old coins and not so lucky keys were found. Lots of prizes were won on the day, including the main prize of an Minelab X-Terra Pro detector. Congratulations to Archie on finding the winning key and claiming the prize.

Our raffle was also drawn with 2 more lucky people taking away a detector each. There were also prizes given for best dressed pirates, congratulations to all those awesome winners. All the winners on the day were also lucky enough to have their photo taken with Pirate Pez, who was very busy. Thanks Pirate Pez for all your help. Click here for photos.

This months hunt was a first for a few of our members making the trip to the gold fields of Clermont. It didn’t disappoint either, with a few nice nuggets found over the couple of days hunting.

The sight of gold coming out of the ground is an experience that you never forget. The guys also found some nice relics on their trip to go with the gold.

We also had a local meeting for the members that couldn’t make it to Clermont. A few nice little trinkets were found overall including a silver ring, 1918 threepence and some other goodies.

The Greg Egretz Memorial weekend was a huge success and wasn’t there some great stuff found. Everybody found something nice, which is good to see. Seeonee Park holds a lot of history, it was a World War training camp as well as a Scout camping ground.

A big thank you to Anthony and everyone else involved to make this great event happen and to honour Greg who spent many a day with Anthony digging there and saving the history. Sophie, our youngest member won the Trophy for the weekend, Congratulations Sophie.
