Mt Morgan General Meeting and Detect Day August 2019

What a fantastic venue to hold a General meeting, the old Leichhardt Hotel in Mt Morgan. Great old pub with delicious food and great hospitality. It was a very good turn out from our members, we also had quite a number of new members joining our wonderful club. I personally would like to say a big welcome to all the new members and hope you enjoyed the meeting as much as we did.

Andrew secured us a club permission at the showgrounds, a very old and historic place. The amount of people that would have visited there over the years to attend the annual shows and events would go back many decades. We were not let down with finds either, a number of pre-decimal coins were found, including pennys, half pennys, threepences and shillings. A couple of other ripper finds, being an old timers razor, a Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps Button and a Wide Bay Regiment Brass Shoulder Title Badge. There was also a liitle bit of jewellery, spendables, and a couple of old buckles found on the day.

July 2019 Meeting

We had a small but good gathering at the polo cross club on Saturday. Was quite a warm old day and the flies loved us, the good old Aussie outdoors.

A few finds came out of the ground, although it was very hard. We really need a good drop of rain to soften things up. Among the odds and ends found were a few tokens a couple of the good old Aussie Pennies, horse saddle studs, a few nice buttons, saddle bling and buckles. We also found an array of QR lead seals in various conditions among the many lead head nails and bullets. Click here for pics guys.

Until next time round happy hunting!

June 2019 Meeting

Good gathering we had for our June 2019 meeting, we had a discussion about some very exciting times coming up for our little club. We also discussed future locations for meetings with a couple of camp site overnighters. We had a detect for a couple of hours after the meeting and a few cool finds were found. Leeann started with a Florin and then a beautiful Gold brooch. A few other nice little bits and pieces were found on the day including a lovely little silver ship button by Graham, click here for pictures guys.

May 2019 Monthly Meeting

Our May monthly meeting, what can I say…“Brilliant”. I am sure I speak for everyone in saying a big thank you to everyone involved to make this day possible. We were given permission to detect a special location, a big thanks to Anthony and Greg for allowing us into their “Honey Hole”. It was originally an old World War 2 training camp. There was some great finds on the day including Eagle Buttons, Threepence, Sixpence, Ammunition, Buckles, Jewellery, Rising Sun, Pocket Knife an awesome dog tag belonging to an American Soldier and a WW2 USA Flint.

March 2019 Monthly Meeting Wrap Up

Nothing better than a snag on the BBQ and that’s what we got at the beach at our monthly meeting on Saturday. Tony and Sandy were cooking up a storm. I have to say thanks to Andrew and Beth for putting on the snags, they were a welcome guest at our meeting and didn’t last too long. Also like to say thanks to Mark for donating a 1919 penny that was fitted to the trophy for the Token Master Event.

Getting onto the meeting it was business as usual, followed by a new yearly event. Andrew came up with the idea of “Beach Token Master”. This is how it works, it was required that members make their own sand scoops, there was 60 tokens pre-buried on the beach in a small rectangular area surrounded by Aussie Flags. Members had 20 minutes to find as many tokens as possible and dig them with their home made creations.

What a blast it was, detectors beeping everywhere, all hunting for the gold tokens to try and get as many as they could. In the end it came down to a draw between Leeann and Dan with 11 tokens each. So back to the beach we went for the tie breaker, the first one to find the last token would be the winner. Dan was lucky enough to find the token and was crowned the winner. Thanks to everyone for the day out, happy hunting everyone!
