Bit of a change of scenery this month, we held our Monthly Meeting at the Cawarral Cricket Grounds where we discussed general business and welcomed 3 new members to our ever growing club. Some of the members were surprised to find out we were not detecting at the cricket grounds, as first thought…but we were actually going to a private location near by (thanks Matt).

Got to say, what a sight with the convoy of cars heading out to the secret location. When we arrived we went up the hill to an old abandoned Gold Mine, which dates back to the late 1800’s. The owner gave us a run down of the property and a bit of it’s history before we grabbed our machines and headed off to see what we could find.

We didn’t have a lot of luck on the day but we know for sure we are keen to head back for another go. However,  there was a couple of interesting finds, Trevor the ORX Guru again showed us how it done with a nice 1901 token, button and buckle. There was also an early 1900’s fob watch centre found plus a few other little bits and pieces by our members.

Hi guys, next club meeting is on Saturday the 23rd of February at the Cawarral Cricket Grounds. The meeting is scheduled to start at 12, after we take care of general business we will be having a detect close by at another location. So grab your detector’s, charge up your batteries and we will see you all there. Don’t forget to wear closed in shoes, sunscreen and slap on a hat. CQ Detectorists Token Hunt Presentation Video.

First of all I would like to thank the committee, our members, sponsors and all the wonderful people who turned out for our first official Australia Day Token Hunt. Without a doubt I think we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of people wanting to have a go at metal detecting. The kids were having a fantastic time out in the field, I seen many a smile on their faces as they swung their detectors looking for the old coins, tokens and relics. However, there was one young fellow in particular who found a 1962 Australian Penny, the smile on his face was priceless, worth the price of gold alone and is one memory I will never forget.

The Relic, Coin, and Bottle Displays were very popular with the many people that visited. The history on some of those item’s is amazing with some dating back to the 1800’s. A big thank you to all those guys and girls who displayed their wonderful collections.

We did notice a vast array of different branded machines , everything from Bounty Hunter, Teknetics, Minelab, Garrett and the new kid on the block, the XP ORX, which is an amazing new machine and can be purchased locally from our major sponsor Justin Cleghorn at “Aussie Detectorist”. Justin also kindly donated 2 Teknetics Metal Detectors to be given away as prizes on the day, thanks Justin.

Last but not least, our good friend, Donnie Pascoe from Pascoelads Prospecting dropped in to say g’day. What a legend and a top bloke he is, a guy who likes to share his knowledge of how and where to find gold. Check out Donnie’s YouTube channel  guys.

Well, our AGM and Xmas party was a great success. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say our first year was pretty damn good. We had a good turn out at the Bluebirds Sports Club, had a bit of a detect, a few beers, some good laughs, home made pizza and to top it of some lovely cakes.
