There was a big interest in our hobby on the weekend, this was shown by the amount or people that turned out to try their hand at detecting. Everyone, especially the kids, were very interested and loved finding those old coins and silver tokens. There was also 30 prize tokens buried but only 11 were found, they seemed to be an elusive target, as they were made to sound a lot different to the everyday ‘dig me’ sounds that us detectorists are used to. The token finders were all very happy with their prizes.
The Relic, Coin, Gold, Gem and Bottle Displays were very popular with the visitors. Some awesome displays were on show again, it just keeps getting better. Leeann, with her relic and bottle collection is just outstanding, Anthony and his massive collection of world war 2 relics, uniforms, ammunition is great, you name it he has it. Trevor, from Relic and Treasure Recovery CQ, had a recirculating gold sluice set up and was quite a busy lad tending to all the people wanting to see it in action. There was also a gold panning station near by, where the kids were excited to see gold for the first time. Donnie, Justin and the guys were looking after them teaching the correct methods for panning. We also had stalls there from Justin at XP Metal Detectors the Aussie Detectorist, Minelab from Leading Edge Electronics Gladstone, Andrew from RAT, Relic and Treasure Hunters Australia, Gladstone Gem Rock and Mineral Club. Also, Donnie Pascoe gave a very informative talk on gold detecting and prospecting. He had everyone glued to their seats with his valuable information for newbies and old hands alike. To help feed all the crowds, we had a coffee van on hand and some wonderful burgers and beverages from the Calliope Rodeo Association.
We had a very successful raffle with 4 great prizes being donated by various Businesses, who we would like to thank very much…Leading Edge Electronics Gladstone, ‘Minelab’, XP Dues Australia the Aussie Detectorist and one of our club members Brett Phillips for his kind donations.
I would like to say a big thank you to Andrew Mason for his tireless work that he put into this event, it was such an outstanding success. I would also like to thank our members who displayed their relics and helped out throughout the day and a big thank you to the Calliope Rodeo Association for allowing us to use their grounds.
